Installing BeaFanatIX to Hard Drive

Notice: Setting up your network connection before running the hard drive installation will make running the localization script on your first boot into BeaFanatIX much easier.

Installing BeaFanatIX is very easy; you'll find a menu item in the "System -> Administration" menu: "Install BFX2"

You'll see the Greeting screen of the installation script; click "OK",

If you already prepared your hard drive for BeaFanatIX, you can proceed with installation: Choose the "Start installation" and click "OK".

Notice:  If you need to prepare your hard drive, please read about partitioning and formatting first.

Now you'll have to answer a few questions; most of them serve to set up a user's account for your future system, but the first two and the last one decide where the system will actually be installed and what status it'll have:

  1. Choose the partition BeaFanatIX should be installed to. If you're offered more than one choice, choose carefully and note your choice. Click "OK".
  2. Choose a file system; for almost all purposes, "ext3" is fine; only if you've got a computer that's capable of a very high performance, "reiserfs" may be more suitable (it's a bit less stable than Ext3, but very efficient - on slower machines, you won't be able to notice the difference, though), and bigger hard drivers profit may from "jfs". Click "OK".
  3. Enter your user's name - you can choose freely here. Click "OK".
  4. Enter your username (note the difference); choose very carefully, since this is the ID you'll use to log into your system; avoid spaces, stay short! Click "OK".
  5. Enter your password; choose carefully again, set up a secure one and take great care of remembering it - if you forget it, your system will be inaccessable! Click "OK".
  6. Confirm your password. Click "OK".
  7. Enter your system's name - don't think too far; if your system is part of a network, however, it's a good idea to stick to the local naming scheme. Click "OK".
  8. Choose where to install the boot loader; if BeaFanatIX is going the only or the main system on your computer (or if you want to use its very versatile boot loader), choose "mbr" (Master Boot Record), if you plan to use it as a secondary system or already have a boot loader installed, choose "partition". Click "OK".

The installer will now present you will your choices made previously before it actually starts the installer.   If you are satisfied with the choices you made, choose yes to start installing BeaFanatIX.

Now the system will install itself to the chosen partition; you'll be informed when it's finished. It won't take long - perhaps five minutes, if your computer is older than three or four years, even less if it's newer. Click "OK" when the button becomes available.

Click "OK" on the message that the system has been installed;

You will be asked if you'd like to reboot your machine.

  • If you want to continue using the live CD, choose "No".
  • To boot into your newly installed system, choose "Yes".

The computer will reboot.

Notice:

  • If you installed the boot loader to mbr, you'll be able to boot directly into BeaFanatIX.
  • If you installed the boot loader to partition, you will need to set up BeaFanatIX in your system's boot loader before you can boot into BeaFanatIX.
