Partitioning and formatting

You'll have to make room for BFX on the system you'd like to install it to.

If you have installed any operating system before, you may be aware of the necessity of preparing a hard drive partition (a reasonably big area of usable hard drive space) to install such a system. If your hard drive is big enough, it can have several paritions and even host more than one operating system.

However, you can't just install any operating system in any partition - you need to fit it in where it belongs. So, in order to install BFX, you'll

  • need enough space (a minimum of 1GB, 4GB to be comfortable);
  • have to format system and swap partitions for use with BFX.

BFX offers two different ways of preparing your hard drive for an installation - a graphical tool and a way to do things on the commandline.
