For Ethernet Connections:
Click Computer, then System Configuration and click Networking.

Click on Ethernet Connection and then click on Properties.

Now you need some information about your system before you proceed. Click the Enable this connection box.
- DHCP - If your router/modem assigns your IP address to your computer, use DHCP. Click on the Configuration button and choose DHCP. Then Click OK.
- Static IP - If your ISP assigns you an address, enter the IP address in the IP Address box, enter your Subnet mask address and Gateway address the same way. Then click OK.

Click OK.
For Modem Connections:
Click Computer, then System Configuration and click Networking.

Click on Modem Connection and then click on Properties.

Click Enable this connection box, then enter your ISP's phone number, dial prefix (if needed), username for your ISP account and your password.
Click the modem tab.

Try clicking the autodetect button. If it does not detect your modem, use the Modem port drop down menu to locate / identify the port the modem can be found on. Choose the Dial type and speaker volume.
Click on the Options tab.

Choose the appropriate options from available choices. If you use your modem as your primary connection to the internet, check the Set modem as default route to internet. If your ISP provides DNS services for your connection, check the Use internet service provider nameservers. If you want your modem to redial / reconnect if your connection drops, check the last box. Click OK.

Use the Activate button to start the connection and the Deactivate button to disconnect.
