Hey,
it would be better (I think) to put the Debris Linux forum in this forum as a subitem. I think it's anoying that I have to register again for a distro so related. I wanted to say something about a mascot, but I cannot login...
It is also good to put a link to Debris Linux on the main page. At least in the BFXlinks section.

I think that now this idea's quite worthwhile since we've got a real beta out - it would have a bit premature only a few days ago. But now I definitely think we should adapt the BFX site.
As for the forum, the Debris site's based on a much more potent software (SimpleMachinesForum with TinyPortal) than this; PunBB works great (and is still one of my favourite web apps), but it has some shortcomings one can't talk away in a hurry. So I think sooner or later the BFX site will have to go and make room for the Debris site, but we're still a long way from that. BFX has attracted at least some people and is still useful; as soon as we've been able to transfer the user base to Debris (as soon as there's a final out at the latest, I think), the double tracking will be dealt with. There's a history behind BFX that Debris's the way to put away with, and I think it's only fair to wait till this is possible to the fullest.

I think the two separate bulletin boards is good for now, though maybe the two forums under the Debris Linux heading could be links to the full Debris Linux. Similarly, the Debris Linux buletin board could/should have a link back here.
I think it also helps, for the moment, to cut the ties with BeatrIX...
Then, when Debris is released as 1.0, then maybe these BFX boards could be moved to a sub-section of the Debris one.

I don't know if you all have seen the link in the top menu on this board... ![]()

Would you like a lecture on User Centred Design?![]()

No, thanks - the real problem is that PunBB doesn't offer much more in terms of interface adaption.
I'd say we'll definitely have to place a link on the main site (BFX's) and maybe(!) a link back here, but if we want to severe ties (over time) to the Bea* legacy, maybe we shouldn't... OTOH, there's been a lot of good work done here - why throw it away? All in all, we could simply transfer the forum (or leave it around)... Too early to decide, really.

P.S. I'm into all that usability stuff myself out of basic needs (I'm doing web publishing as part of my job) - but alas, there's a lot of bullshit talk and topoi around in that field; I'm not too glad to say this, but the last time I ran into someone who called himself a designer, the project almost ended up up-ended, if you know what I mean. But you're certainly right about "make it simple, make it visible"...

Update on this thread: I've started research about moving the whole board (all its contents and users including status) over to the Debris site. With SMF it should be doable, but I won't do that before I haven't tried it out somewhere else. I'll keep you posted - and it'll have to wait a bit since there are changes coming anyway. So there'll be news about this somewhen around the end of November...

BFX is BFX, DL is DL. They are seperated, they stay seperated. We link to each other, that's it. No merging. Period!
What's the big deal with two registrations? Sure, we have email confirmation which is inconvenient but necessary (not sure about DL though). Even so, a registations takes, a couple of seconds...
Besides, we have a lot of already dead accounts. I see no reason why to move the junk to DL, too.

Okay, I understand. The point is that a lot of the discussions we had here would be also useful on the Debris board on the long run, and I just thought about the need of two sites. If we keep the BFX site up for nostalgic/separation reasons, I fully agree with your position; if not, I'd like to see a way to sort of "save" the stuff that's worthwhile.
